Mixing Pattern & Texture...

Ever since we finished our family room makeover complete with a new patterned blue rug...I have been craving even  more pattern! It's like an addiction.  One pattern leads to another ;)  Here's the rug below...

Which lead to this new coral patterned pillow and sheepskin.  Funny story with the sheepskin.  We went to Ikea with the intention to buy a real sheepskin (as they carry both real and fake).  But upon closer inspection the hubby and I liked the faux version better.  It looks and feels real!  Oddly enough the real one looked fake and came in an odd size.  Go figure!

*Tip - when mixing patterns, vary the size.  For example, the rug below has a large pattern, the cheetah pillow has a medium pattern, and the coral pillow has a small pattern.  And well the sheepskin has no pattern, just texture.

Even our beige entry rug has a tone on tone pattern.  Here's my new chevron stool below.  Our neutral entry desperately needed some color and pattern, so this was a great find!

Finally when I added new accessories to our built-ins,  I found this fun patterned tray at Target.  With the grays, blues and even a little coral...the colors are perfect!  I even found this gold patterned storage box on clearance.  Really?  It's like patterns are calling my name!

Seriously though, mixing pattern and color are one of my favorite things about decorating.  It just makes things interesting if you do it right, and your space will never be boring.

  6. I recently bought a bunch of the faux sheepskin rugs at Ikea for a project I'm doing for my daughter's room. They were so inexpensive it was great! And the real ones were so expensive I couldn't believe it! Love the look you've created. Kathleen

  7. Your new pattern mixing looks so great Jane. I love the combination of the leopard, coral and the blues that are already in your family room. I need some serious pattern mixing but I am the slowest to make decisions about my own house!!!
